There is a difference between mental wellness and mental illness. I believe that even though there have been strides towards addressing mental wellness— there is a huge gap and need for long-term care. This includes psychiatrists, therapy, medication monitoring, and more.
Within all that, there is a need for systemic help such as transportation, living wages, and housing to name a few. That is also something I’m passionate about, but recognize others know more about than I do.
People need long term treatment for a chronic mental illnesses. That looks different for everyone and it’s not available to nearly enough people who need it.

Absolutely NOT. In no way. I was diagnosed at the Waterford by a wonderful woman named Dr. Rees. I’m grateful she listened and likely saved my life. I’m thankful for every single person who works to help those struggling. I do, however, believe that staffing shortages is contributing to lack of access to care and burnout. That is not their fault.

Write your MHA! That matters to me more than anything else. They need to hear from the people. They are likely very sick of hearing from me!
If you are a parent, please talk to your children from a young age about mental illness.
If you are the media, please make sure to report on it whenever it’s mentioned in the HoA. Please think about how to tell stories of those who are willing to talk but not be able to give names.
If you are a politician— please put pressure from all sides and be willing to admit it’s NOT partisan and work together.
If you are an employer— please look at your long term mental health benefits and pay a living wage.
Speak specifically and often about how it’s not weak to have a mental illness.
Please educate yourself about the hardest parts of mental illness.
I’d love to see you on Monday mornings, but please know I want to be 100% respectful and not be loud.
And if you are here because of week 100— please head there to see what you can do to help with that!
